Anyone who has watched a loved one suffer needlessly in the last days of life knows all too well the value of meaningful conversations about end-of-life wishes with the resulting decisions being incorporated into an advanced care directive.
The Alliance for Living and Dying Well is helping people have these types of conversations, which are personal to each individual. The Alliance believes that, while difficult, these types of conversations and planning for death and dying are also a time of deep meaning and growth, and they can improve one’s quality of life and ability to enjoy life. We hope you find time to join us in one of our free Five Wishes workshops around the community and create your own advanced care directive. Take a look at our Calendar Page for information about upcoming workshops.
We Did It!
On April 16th, The Alliance for Living and Dying Well held their 3rd Annual “Get It Done Today!” event in partnership with the Santa Barbara Public Library, in conjunction with National Health Care Decisions Day. The event had onsite professional facilitators, notaries, and trained volunteers in both English and Spanish to accommodate the community.
The goal of this FREE community event was to help the public complete their Advance Health Care Directives. The Alliance recognized a significant increase in the percentage of completed Advance Health Care Directives, which is a critical part of their mission to seek a seamless, compassionate continuum of end-of-life care. The Alliance held 61 one-on-one facilitations with the help of 19 facilitators in 4 hours at the Faulkner Gallery with a 59% advanced directive completion rate – almost double the completion rate of last year’s event.
